NEWS TO KNOW
RENEWAL ON BALLOT ON NOV. 7TH
A two part proposition will be on the ballot for the November 7th election. It is the renewal of the Non-Homestead Property Tax Levy and Headlee Override. This has been a key component of school funding ever since school funding changed with the passage of Proposal A in the 1990s. At that time, every school district in Michigan had to go to the voters to get this passed in order to receive the full funding available under the law. It is required to be renewed by the voters every 5 years.
SOME KEY POINTS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS LEVY:
-- This is NOT a tax on your Primary Residence.
* Your taxes WILL NOT GO UP if it passes.
* Your taxes WILL NOT GO DOWN if it fails.
-- This applies only to commercial properties, industrial properties, rental properties, vacant land, and vacation homes located within the Bedford Public School district boundaries.
-- This provides nearly 10% of the Bedford Public Schools' funding and amounts to $3.3 million in revenue annually
-- The revenue this millage provides is considered part of the Foundation Allowance, a per-pupil funding amount, under Proposal A. The State deducts this per-pupil local revenue from the Foundation Allowance and would not make up the difference if this levy was not renewed.
The Non-Homestead Levy renewal will be shown as Proposition A and the Headlee Override will be shown as Proposition B and will be labeled as follows:
PROPOSITION A and PROPOSITION B: OPERATING MILLAGE RENEWAL PROPOSITION EXEMPTING PRINCIPAL RESIDENCE AND QUALIFIED AGRICULTURAL PROPERTY

Pull Tabs for Ronald McDonald House
It’s time for our annual Pull Tab Competition for the Ronald McDonald House. The money received from recycling the pull tabs provides the yearly food budget for the over 500 families RMHC serves. All money stays locally at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Ohio. The competition ends in April.
The class that brings in the most tabs wins lunch from McDonalds (hamburger or cheeseburger with fries and a drink). So let’s Pull together to pick up the Tab to help others in need. Every Mustang Counts!
